We increase safety and potential in schools
A school is a large workplace. Every day, a multitude of children and adults come together to collaborate and achieve educational goals. To reach long-term and sustainable learning, the conditions for a learning-friendly work environment must be in place: empathy, inclusion, safety, positive relationships, and a calm atmosphere.
Together with Equally Different, 200 primary and secondary schools in Sweden, Åland, and Finland have improved daily life for thousands of students and school staff.

Examples of how we work in schools
The municipality of Varberg has made a municipality-wide decision to offer Equally Different’s comprehensive solution for work environment and values-based work – the School Package Academic Year – Values Year (Learning Lab) – to all its primary schools. A total of 17 out of 22 schools are working over a three-year period with Equally Different’s annual cycle, theme days, and the Equally Different Day.
In the three municipalities of southern Dalarna – Hedemora, Avesta, and Säter – the majority of all primary schools have worked annually with Equally Different for six years. This is based on a strategic decision by each school’s management, student health services, and after-school programs to strengthen values-based work, academic results, and positive interaction at school through Equally Different’s comprehensive service, the School Package Academic Year – Values Year, including initial theme days and the Equally Different Day.
At Westerlundska Upper Secondary School in Enköping, Equally Different’s Themed Student Day has been used as a valuable, strategic, and recurring part of the autumn term’s start-up days for new first-year students for nearly ten years. School staff are also trained in social skills.
At Linåkerskolan in Skåne, Equally Different was invited to conduct its well-regarded Themed Student Day with lectures and exercises for the students. The targeted Equally Different lecture for guardians attracted over 200 parents.

Our method process
The Equally Different method is based on nudging (behavioral shifts). Our methodology is divided into four process steps, based on the current situation and needs. These steps are:
1.
Insight
Tired of “someone else”? Do you want values and work environment efforts to stop gathering dust on the shelf, with only a few people engaged in the psychosocial work? To get more people involved and actively contributing to a sense of community and positive behaviors, Equally Different offers several strategic tools.
2.
Knowledge
When we want something, we can do it! When “someone else” is no longer the mantra and the willingness to contribute to positive interpersonal relationships within the organization has grown, it’s time to move forward with knowledge training in social psychological tools for everyday interaction. Equally Different offers tailored and themed trainings and products.
3.
Tools
Research shows that we learn in a long-term and sustainable way when we get to try things ourselves. That’s why, in this step, Equally Different works with customized tools for each client, based on the mission, current situation, and needs. Together and independently, social skills are systematically practiced, enabling increased community, well-being, and internal potential.
4.
Action
In the work of shifting more behaviors to become more inclusive and empathetic through nudging, Equally Different is engaged to train, strengthen, and coach the first three steps of the Equally Different method (Insight, Knowledge, and Tools). The fourth and final step, Action, is owned by each individual. And this is where the magic happens—when “someone else” ceases to exist and personal will takes over, turning thought into conscious action. I can, I want to! It starts with me!

Equally Different certification
After ten years, Equally Different’s certification for schools has become a natural symbol of quality for primary and secondary schools that systematically strive to create inclusive, empathetic, and healthy work environments for all kinds of individuals. All primary and secondary schools that work with Equally Different’s Values Year—a holistic and conceptual values-based program for students, school staff, and guardians—over three consecutive academic years become certified.
Measure and evaluate social and economic impact
Expectations and demands are increasing for organizations to ensure operations that contribute to sustainable value creation. This applies to everyone—businesses, municipalities, regions, non-profit organizations, and social entrepreneurs. Measuring, following up, and evaluating operations based on the three dimensions of sustainability is a key starting point in this work.
To meet these expectations, the Equally Different team has completed a comprehensive, research-based training that provides practical knowledge and concrete tools for measuring impact and value creation—both social and economic.
The training is provided by Skandia Ideas for Life in collaboration with Uppsala and Umeå Universities.
